My wife's 12-day Kyoto trip report

We took the early morning train Haruka from Kyoto and headed for Kansai Airport. My husband enjoyed talking to people even on the day we left Japan. Before getting on the train, he talked with an elderly couple that visiting Jeju Island in the waiting room at the train station. He talked for an entire hour until he arrived at Kansai Airport with a Japanese young man who was on backpacking to India even after getting on the train.

We arrived at Kansai Airport, finished the departure procedure. Checked in the plane more easily than when we entering Japan.

That's it for our 12-day stay in Kyoto~~~

1. This is the cost of living in Kyoto for 11 nights and 12 days, which you asked a lot because you were curious about. It's for of us, my husband and me.

2. Airfare approximately $430 + 30,000 mileage (allowance)

3. Transportation costs (Kansai-Kyoto round trip transportation and tourism train, local transportation costs) approximately $180.00

4. USIM and Traveler Insurance Premiums approximately $80

5. Accommodation and food, admission and miscellaneous expenses approximately $1,000.00

6. Total approximately $1,700 + 30,000 mileage

7. If you convert mileage into money, it is about $2,000+(¥á) per 12 days in Kyoto.

My husband and I stayed in a three ~ four-star hotels. They was located in Kion Street, which was relatively expensive. It was located at 4 stops by bus. They were good for the price. The hotel price was still around 60-70% compared to before Covid. Our hotels cost about $30 to $150 per night, not including meals. Saturday's fare was more than three times higher than the weekday fare.

We stayed at a 3-4 star hotel for 10 nights. Had a practical ryokan experience for one night. Went to Ohara and Arashiyama as well as downtown Kyoto, and took the Arashiyama sightseeing train.

The reason why it cost less than others was because there were large supermarkets near our hotels. We enjoyed a lot of delicious mart lunch boxes and sashimi. Luckily all three of Japan's major Gyudon chains were near our lodges, so had no problem with our breakfast. Generally the price of food was the less than expected. More over it was also good for health to eat Japanese home food. We have really enjoyed the most normal and healthy food made of local home food in any country.

Funny to say, as I didn't know Japanese, I called them in Korean. One was Gimbap Heaven, the other was Gimbap Nara, and the third was Jongno Gimbap^^. We usually enjoyed Japanese home-cooked meals for breakfast, lunch at a restaurant, and dinner was mostly lunch boxes and sashimi from the mart.

For 12-day experience in Kyoto, I thought it would cost about 2,700 dollars to live in Kyoto for a month in our own way. Excluding airfare, considering that Kyoto is a tourist destination, I thought it could be more expensive than other small and medium-sized cities, and cheaper than Tokyo.

Through this 12-day trip to Kyoto, we had a good time because the travel expenses were less than we expected in many ways. We thought we could go to Japan more often in the future. We were lucky to have benefited a lot from the exchange rate this time. In addition, it was good for us to enjoy our tour while staying in Kyoto relatively cheaply as the tourism atmosphere had not yet fully recovered from Covid.

Thank you.
