오, 데니보이(O Danny Boy)

1910년, 영국의 변호사, 作辭家였던 프레드릭 웨덜리(1848-1929)가 작사한 오 데니 보이는  Londonderry Air (Air from county Londonderry, 북아일랜드의 런던데리 地方의 노래)라는 아일랜드 民謠에 쓴 가사로 1915년에 미국에서 녹음되어 새世紀의 가장 유명한 노래가 되었다.

이 노래는 듣는 사람에게, 전쟁으로 떠나는 아들에게 보내는 부모의 메시지, 혹은 떠나는 아일랜드의 디아스포라에게 보내는 메시지로 解釋(해석)되었었다.

From glen to glen and down the mountainside.
The summer's gone and all the roses falling,
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,

오, 데니 보이, 골짜기에서 산 기슭까지 피리가 부른다 

여름은 가고 薔薇(장미)는 모두 지는데 너는 가야 하고 나는 남아서 기다려야 하네.
하지만 너는 여름의 牧場(목장)에 아니면 골짜기가 눈으로 하얗게 沈默(침묵)할 때 돌아올 거야.

나는 해가 빛날 때도 흐릴 때도 여기 있을게.

오 데니보이, 나는 너를 사랑해

And when you come and all the flowers are dying,
And I am dead - as dead as I well may be
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say Ave there for me
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,

꽃이 모두 질 때 네가 돌아와

나도 만약 죽어있다면,

내가 누워있는 곳에 네가 찾아와 무릎꿇고 '安寧(안녕)'하겠지

내 위에서 부드럽게 걷는 소리를 들으면

내 무덤은 더 따듯해지고 편안해질 거야.

그리고 네가 몸을 구부려 내게 '사랑해요' 말한다면

나는 네가 올 때까지 편안하게 잠들 거야.
