영국의 名재상 벤자민 디스레일리(1804-81)는 정치의 본질에 대하여 많은 名言들을 남겼다.
그는 '신사들이 의회로 돌아오지 않을 때 이 제국은 멸망할 것이다.'(When Gentlemen cease to be returned to Parliament this Empire will perish.)고 걱정하였다. 선거에서 신사들을 뽑지 않고 선동꾼을 선출하면 나라가 망한다는 뜻이다. 내년 총선에서 한국 유권자들이 또 다시 반역, 거짓말, 부패 전과자들을 의회로 보내면 어떻게 될 것인가? '신사를 국회로, 운동권은 운동장으로!'가 유권자들의 구호가 되어야 할 것 같다.
