(English version is below)

.

People met on my backpacking113 – Krabi, Thailand

.

Today, I also had porridge for my breakfast at a regular restaurant in the morning market. While I'm eating porridge, my wife stops by various shops in the market and gets what she wants to eat. There is all kinds of food here, so we enjoy the joy of choice. Thailand has plenty of food everywhere, but the morning market here is especially attractive to us. Fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as shrimp, all kinds of trimmed seafood, various Thai rice cakes, bread, and donuts are overflowing. It's a place where we feel full and happy just by looking at them.

.

While I was sitting on a stool with the locals eating porridge, my wife came back to me after buying some food she wanted. As we got out of our seats, I made eye contact with a big Western guy in his 50s who was sitting on another stool and eating donuts. I've seen a few Westerners came here to buy some fruit, but it's the first time I've seen a Western guy sitting on a stool and eating food like me. I greeted him first, and he welcomed me as if he had met an old friend. He was Spanish. The woman sitting next to him was his wife of Thai. He had breakfast with doughnuts and his Thai wife was enjoying traditional Thai dishes, Somtam and curry noodles. I've seen a lot of scenes like this. People can change their nationality, but it's hard to change their eating habits.

.

I told them that we were a couple from Seoul, Korea. And said that we were there in Thai 'cause the winter in Korea was too cold for my wife. He showed me that he could understand what I meant. He said his wife was the same as my wife, weak in the cold winter in Spain. I asked him where in Spain they were living. He said Andalusia. I said that Andalusia was not only a very large area of southern Spain, but a place that never went below all year round from 5'C~10 C' in winter. I asked him which part of Andalusia he lived? He said 'Jaen'. I told him that we visited there. He was glad to hear me that we were there when we traveled Granada.

.

I told him that when we went to see the Alhambra Palace in Granada 15 years ago, we stopped by large cities in Andalusia, including Jaen, Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, etc. He was surprised to hear what I said, and the first thing he asked me was which food was the best in Andalusia. I told him that Jamon was the best for me and for my wife was the gaspacho and fried anchovies. He asked me if we had Jamon in Korea. I said that we had an imported product in Korea, but it's rare and expensive. He asked me to visit his hometown of Jaen. He wanted to make me happy with Jamon. I jokingly asked his wife if I could trust her husband's word for it, she said yes. She told me that her husband's job was working for a company that handled meat processed foods, including Jamon.

.

I asked his wife if there was anything uneasy about living in Spain. She said adjusting to food was the most difficult. So she said that when she comes to her native Thailand once a year, especially in winter, for about a week, and enjoys Somtam, Senreknam (rice noodles), and Pad Thai. It's like Koreans living in foreign countries such as the United States miss Korean food. I asked her if she had any language problems. She replied she learned Spanish and English before met her husband. Her husband spoke English well, too.

.

The Thai wife was very kind, offering us coffee and doughnuts. So did the Spanish husband. As is often said, the characters of the Romance languages (France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Italy, etc.) were very optimistic. I asked him what he wanted to do first if he visit Korea. He said that he would try Korean bulgogi and bibimbap first when he come to Korea. I told him when come to Korea, I would treat him bulgogi and bibimbap and he smiled broadly like a child and gave a thumbs up. In the end, I parted with them saying Korean food stuff talk. Well, like this, I have some friends to talk to everywhere in the world. It means my trip around the world more fun and rewarding.

.

Thank you.
