(English version is below)

.

It’s my life. Why not?”

.

People met on my backpacking117 – From Bangkok to Ayuttaya

.

Bangkok's Kaosan Road is a paradise for travelers, especially backpackers around the world. Maybe that's why people from all over the world gather. The world of night turns into a mad city. In the bars (halls) lined up on both sides of the center of the Khaosan road, rap and hip-hop shake the earth axis with beats along with the DJ's comment. The whole street quickly turns into a huge club. Better than Transformers. It's colorful and dynamic. The entire street turns into a super-large super-special club and drives it into a roar. Eat, drink, take off their tops and shake tirelessly.

.

"Yes, it's my life. "Why not?" some one exclaimed and danced. Most of them were young guys from the West, but they looked good because they knew how to enjoy youth. Instead of shaking their bodies, the real old people, including some young guys who grew up in abundance, lay comfortably on numerous massage chairs on the road and gently closed their eyes. Enjoyed kneading. Some even made the impression that it hurt too much. Some may be addicted to massage, but they knew the joys of life, knowing how to enjoy the given environment to the fullest.

.

This phenomenon did not exist 20 years ago before the era of globalization began. At that time, Westerners, Japanese, and Koreans, who had a long history of travel culture, were the mainstream. This was especially the case with the backpacker culture. It had its own order, dignity, and manners. However, I don't know if it's unfortunate or fortunate, but it started to change noticeably around 2010.

.

First, Chinese and Russians overwhelmed the travel culture in numbers, and soon it became an unexpected racial exhibition hall with Indians, Brazilians, Chileans, Serbs, Croats, Estonians, Turks, Vietnamese, Thais, Indonesians, and Mongolians. Side effects have appeared. Cheaters, gamblers, thieves, drunks, sexual harassers, homosexuals. While the backpacker culture collapsed from order to disorder, it was stopped for three years due to a strong Corona brake. I came to Bangkok's Kaosan Road because the Corona crisis seemed to be over. However, it was not much different from the atmosphere before COVID-19.

.

Our couple moved from Kaosan Road, a forest of civilization, to Ayutthaya, a forest of nature. We went to Ayutthaya by 8 a.m. train from Hwarampung Station in Bangkok. It took an hour and 40 minutes. We got a ticket for 20 baht (about 65 cents) for a regular seat without air conditioning. The air conditioner seat is 250 baht (about $8). We usually use air conditioning seats for long distances such as "Nung Kai" or "Chiang Mai" from Bangkok, but we use regular seats for short distances within two hours.

.

We are in Ayutthaya for the third time in 2008, 2014 and this time. We came back to the natural world in just two hours. There is no noise of civilization, such as the sound of any car, around our staying place. Instead, there are only the morning sun, the chirping of various tones of unknown birds, the sound of a proud rooster's crows after a long time, and dogs barking faithfully as if they were blowing a morning bugle. All of this is definitely a resting place for us to soothe our tired mind and body for a moment, which is the product of civilization: car noise, siren sounds, and loud beat music that seems to bother our eardrums.

.

(PS, We revisited the Wat Mahathat temple, famous for its Buddhist relics, that we had visited 15 years ago. I took a photo in the same place and compared it to 15 years ago. The face of the Buddha remained the same, but mine changed.)
