Oh, God. Where is our Spartacus for the freedom of Korea?



오, 하나님 !! 한국의 자유를 위한 우리의 스팔터커스는 어디에 있습니까?


Over the two consecutive nights, I have watched A USA Network Original
Miniseries Event, Goran Visnjic (ER) stars in Spartacus, based on the epic tale
of one man's leadership during one of history's most legendary fights for
freedom.

나는 이틀밤 연속, 자유를 위한 역사상 가장 전설적인 싸움 중에서, 한 사람의 지도력에 관한 서사적 이야기에 기초한 미국 TV 미니시리즈
특집( 스팔타커스역에는 스타배우 Goran Visnjic)을 시청하였습니다.


In 72 B.C., a time when the Roman Empire's brutal force was
far-reaching, each conquered country meant new slaves to do the bidding of their
Roman masters. Sold into slavery as a young boy after witnessing his father's
murder, Spartacus eventually grew up to lead a slave revolt against Rome's
powerful generals and politicians. The profound impact of Spartacus' challenge
to the Roman Empire in the name of freedom was felt for years to come.

기원전 72년, 로마제국의 무지막지한 힘이 먼곳까지 미치고 있었을 때, 정복된 각 나라는 로마 지배자들의 명령에 따르는 신참 노예를
의미하였습니다.

어린 소년일 때 아버지의 살인사건을 목격한 이후, 노예로 팔린 스팔터커스는 드디어 로마의 강력한 장군들과 정치인들에 대항하여 노예반란을 이끌 만큼 장성하였습니다. 자유의 이름으로 로마제국에 대한 스팔터커스의 도전이라는 깊은 감동은 다가올 시대를 위하여 공감되는 바 있었습니다.

I watched this movie when I was in Korea, where Kirk Douglas (Spartacus) may be
in the best role of his career, a slave who would rather 'Die free- than live a
slave.' This is the passion that drives him to challenge against the power of
the almighty Roman Empire.

나는 이 영화를 한국에 있을 때 보았는데, 자신의 배우경력 중에서 아마 최고의 역할이었을 커크 더글라스는 ' 노예로 살기보다는 자유롭게 죽고자
' 했던 노예(스팔터커스)역을 맡았습니다. 이 말은 어마어마한 로마제국의 힘에 대항하여 그로 하여금 도전하도록 다그친 열정입니다.

And General Crassus -(Beautiful-Laurence Olivier), who is threatened and deeply
jealous of Spartacus...whom has many followers who would die for this simple,
brave, amazing slave turned gladiator. The all star cast is just as spectacular
...Tony Curtis,Charles Laughten and the stunning Jean Simmons (as Spartacus's
wife, Varinia).

그리고 크라수스 장군 ( 훌륭한 - 로렌스 올리비아 )은 스팔터커스에 의하여 위협당하였고 그를 질투하였습니다. 이렇게 검투사로 변신한,
담백하고 용맹스러운 놀랄만한 노예 스팔터커스는 그를 위하여 죽고자하는 많은 추종자들을 가지고 있었습니다.
그리고 토니 커티스, 챨스 로튼, 그리고 매력적인 진 사이먼( 스팔터커스의 부인 베리니아 역 ) 등 호화로운 스타들이 배역을 맡았습니다.

I still clearly remember the scene: when Crassus screams, 'Tell me who Spartacus
is and you will all save yourselves!' One by one they all step forward. 'Then
kill them all.' He says.

나는 아직도 크라수스가 ' 스팔터커스가 누군지 내게 말해라 그러면 너희들은 모두 생명을 건질 것이다. ' 라고 소리치던 장면을 생생하게
기억하고 있습니다. 한사람씩 그들 모두는 앞으로 발걸음을 내디딥니다. 그때 그는 ' 그들을 모두 죽여라 ' 고 말합니다.

But the scene at the end kills me, absolutely rips my heart out...

Spartacus is on the cross, dying. Varinia finds him and holds his son up towards
the cross. 'This is your son, Spartacus. This is your son. He is free. Free.'

그러나 마지막 장면은 나를 몹시 지치게 만듭니다, 완전히 나의 마음을 찢어 놓습니다.
십자가에 달려서 죽어가고 있는 스팔터커스를 부인 바리니아가 발견하고서는 십자가를 향하여 그의 아들을 안아 올립니다.

' 스팔터커스! 이 아이가 당신의 아들입니다. 이 아이가 당신의 아들입니다. 그는 자유로운 몸입니다. 자유로운. '

Now, in this revised version, Spartacus is killed in the battle. His wife names
his son the same name, Spartacus, and the movie starts with the story she tells
her grown-up son how his Father fought for the name of freedom. The movie ends
when she said, “How would you end up with your story, son?”

지금 이 개정판에서는, 스팔터커스는 전쟁터에서 죽게 됩니다. 그의 아내는 그의 아들이름을 같은이름 스팔터커스로 짓습니다. 그리고 영화는
그녀가 성장한 아들에게 그의 아버지가 자유의 이름으로 어떻게 싸웠던가를 말해 주는 스토리로 시작합니다. 영화는 그녀가 ' 아들아 너는 너의
이야기를 어떻게 마무리 하고 싶니? ' 라고 말하는 것으로 끝납니다.

I am more deeply moved by this revised movie than the original one, since now I
am old enough to know the importance of freedom for an individual as well as a
nation and my homeland is going to lose her freedom.

나는 오리지날 원작영화보다 이 개정판 영화에서 더 깊은 감동을 받았습니다. 왜냐하면 지금 나는 국가는 물론 개인을 위한 자유의 소중함을
알만큼 충분히 나이가 들었기 때문이며 그리고 나의 조국은 그 자유를 잃어가고 있기 때문입니다.

Such a long time ago (in 72 B.C.), we had such a brave man who challenged
against the almighty Roman Empire in the name of freedom. He showed his great
leadership and sacrificed himself for freedom from slave. I still hear what he
is shouting, “There is no slave. There is no master, so we are free
men!!!” When Spartacus and his men march into the Roman soldiers to wage a last
battle, he does not shout “ charge , or attack.” The word comes from his mouth
is “freedom.”

그렇게도 오래 전에 ( 기원전 72년 ) 우리는 자유의 이름으로 어마어마한 로마제국에 대항하여 도전하였던 그렇게도 용감한 한 사람을
가졌었습니다. 그는 노예상태로부터 자유를 얻기 위하여 그의 위대한 지도력과 자기희생을 보여주었습니다. 나는 아직도 그가 ' 노예는
없다, 지배자도 없다. 그래서 우리는 자유인이다 !!! ' 라고 외치는 것을 듣습니다.

스팔터커스와 그의 추종자들이 마지막 전쟁을 수행하기 위하여 로마군인들 속으로 진격해 들어갈 때, 그는 ' 돌격하라' 혹은 '공격하라' 라고
소리치지 않았습니다. 그의 입에서 나온 말은 ' 자유(Freedom) '입니다.

Korea has been trying to make herself a slave for the Evil Empire of Kim Jeong
Il, calling him a new master of Korea. Somebody insists history repeats
itself. But no country has ever made herself the slave for the other country
voluntarily as S. Korea for N. Korea in the world history. Only one country
since the beginning of history has been trying. It is S. Korea, my old
homeland.

대한민국은, 한국의 새로운 지배자로 자처하는 김정일의 악의 제국을 위한 노예가 되려고 자청하고 있습니다. 역사는 반복된다고 누군가가
역설했습니다. 그러나 세계역사에 있어서 남한이 북한에 하는 식으로 자발적으로 다른 나라에 노예가 되려고 한 나라는 없습니다. 역사 이래로
오직 하나의 나라만이 시도하고 있습니다. 그것은 나의 조국 대한민국(남한)입니다.

After I watch this movie, I feel as if my heart were sinking and sinking to the
bottom of the darkness. Oh, Christ. Where is our Spartacus for Korea, who is
willing to lead this poor people and die for the freedom of my old motherland?

“Freedom has never been free since the dawn of history of the world.”

이 영화를 보고 난 후에, 나의 마음은 마치 암흑세계의 바닥으로 가라앉고 또 가라앉는 것처럼 느낍니다. 오! 그리스도여 이렇듯 불행한
국민을 인도할, 그리고 나의 조국의 자유를 위하여 죽고자하는, 한국을 위한 우리의 스팔터커스는 어디에 있습니까?
' 자유는, 세계역사가 시작된 이래 결코 거저 얻어진 적이 없습니다. '
