마르크스, 공산혁명을 위한 전쟁 정당화

 마르크스는 '전쟁은 생산수단을 소유하고 이를 강화하며 확대하기 위해 행해지는 사회집단 상호간의 무력 투쟁이다.'라고 정의했다. 즉 생산수단의 소유를 위한 수단과 방법 및 행위가 전쟁이라고 정의했다. 아울러 그의 주장은 계급투쟁에서 '역사에는 유일하게 항구적인 투쟁만이 존재하는데, 그 투쟁이란 바로 가난한 자가 있는 자에 대한 투쟁'이라고 정의했다. 또한 '이를 성실히 수행하면 사회혁명이 일어나고 이것이 전쟁으로 발전한다'고 정의를 내렸다.

 마르크스의 이론을 바탕으로 러시아에서는 혁명이 일어났다. 이후 공산주의는 '자본주의 발전과정에서 일어나는 전쟁에는 반대하나, 사회주의 실현을 위한 해방전쟁에는 찬성한다'며 전쟁에 대한 이론을 전개시켰다. 이 같은 공산주의의 폭력혁명 이론은 무서운 결과를 초래해 2차 대전 이후 전 세계를 이념 전쟁의 회오리에 빠져들게 만들었다. 대표적인 예가 중국의 공산화, 6.25 전쟁, 베트남전쟁, 캄보디아 내전에 따른 폴 포트의 대학살(The Killing Field)등이다.

 舊 소련, 10월 혁명 이전 공산당 가입자의 90% 처형

 솔제니친은 1975년 6월30일, 미국 최대의 노조 연합체인 'AFL-CIO' 제1차 초청 강연에서 다음과 같이 말했다.

 '전문가들의 객관적이고 정확한 통계에 의하면 러시아 혁명 이전 80년 동안 연간 약 17명이 처형되었다고 한다. 이 시기는 혁명운동의 시대로서 짜르(Czar)를 암살하고자 하는 시도가 많았던 시기다. 수십년 동안 지속되었던 스페인의 종교재판도 그 절정기에는 매달 10명 정도 밖에는 처형하지 않았다. '수용소 군도'에서 나는 '체홉'이 1920년 출판했던 저서를 인용한 바 있다. 체홉은 이 책에서 1918~1919년 동안 매달 1000명 이상의 사람들이 재판도 받지 않고 처형되었다는 '혁명활동'을 자랑스럽게 보고했다. 체홉이 지적한 이 수치가 완벽한 것인지의 여부는 확실치 않아 유감스럽다. 그러나 체홉이 이러한 내용에 관해 역사가 조명하기 이전에 스스로 집필한 것은 사실이다. 스탈인의 테러가 절정에 달했던 1937년과 1938년에 처형된 사람들은 월별로 따져보면 1개월 동안 약 4만 명 이상이나 된다.'

A free people cannot afford to forget the evils of Communism. We cannot allow the atrocities of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, and Castro to fade into the background of history. We must not forget the trail of blood and tears this utopian deception has left behind.

It is a great moral failing that so many do not know the extent of Communism’s atrocities. While the horrors of Nazism are well known, who knows that the Soviet Union murdered 20 million people? Who knows that China’s dictators have slaughtered as many as 60 million? Who knows that the Communist holocaust has exacted a death toll surpassing that of all of the wars of the 20th century combined? (Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation)

A detailed bibliography is listed at the end of this page. While this list is as complete as I have been able to determine, it is evolving. Some numbers are incomplete and there are still five Communist countries that have the potential to kill more of their citizens.
