From February 1965 until his assassination in 1979, President Park Chung-hee attended nearly every monthly meeting of the country’s export-promotion committee, sampling products and rallying businessmen over lunch. 1965년 2월에서 1979년 弑害(시해)당할 때 까지 박정희 대통령은 전국 수출 진흥위원회 월간회의에 거의 빠짐없이 참석하여 생산품들을 살펴보고 점심을 같이 먹으면서 기업인들을 격려하였다. 대통령은 1964년에 한국 수출액이 1억 달러를 초과하였을 때 울었다. 그리고 “수출의 날”로 알려진 이 날을 국경일로 선포하였다.(後에 “무역의 날”로 재지명하였다)

동서고금의 역사에서 국민을 먹여 살리기 위하여, 국민을 잘 살게 하기 위하여, 가난의 한을 풀어주기 위하여, 이토록 눈물을 흘리며 분투하였던 국가최고지도자는 없었을 것이다. 적어도 5000년 한국의 역사에서는 없었다. 지금도 없고 이후로도 없을 것이다. 또다시 5000년이 흘러도 이렇게 거룩한 국가원수는 나타나지 않을 것 같다.

Speaking of President Park Chung-hee, I can tell something about him.
I saw Him in person in Shinchon Rotary in 1966 and 1974.
It was when President Johnson and President Ford of the United
States visited Korea.
At that time, on the way from Kimpo Airport to Blue House,
President Park got off at Shinchon Rotary and walked about half a lap.
I saw the US President and President Park Chung-hee there.
One day I waved and cheered at a distance of about 50m and
the other day at a very close distance of about 10m, looking
at President Park's face and smile.
When I see a picture of President Park Chung-hee or hear a story,
I always think of his wonderful smile and friendly waving hands
that I saw then back. I really miss Him very much.
