政商輩(정상배)는 자신을 위하여 국가가 봉사하도록 하는 사람이고, 政治家(정치가)는 국가를 위하여 봉사하는 이다. 대한민국이 가장 빨리 망하는 방법은 與野(여야)가 선거 중 공약한 정책을 실천하는 것이라는 우스개가 있다. 정상배와 정치가를 가르는 기준은 公私(공사)구분, 즉 國益(국익)을 私益(사익)에 우선시키느냐의 與否(여부)이다.
민주주의의 한계를 간파한 프랑스의 샤를 드골은 이렇게 말한 적이 있다.
“정치에선 조국이나 유권자들을 배신해야 할 필요가 있다. 나는 (그럴 경우) 유권자들을 배신할 것이다.”
In politics it is necessary either to betray one's country or the electorate. I prefer to betray the electorate.

프랑스의 위대한 지도자 샤를 드골은 말이 적은 이였지만 名言과 名文(명문)을 많이 남겼다. 그의 진정한 힘은 知性(지성) 있는 오만이었다. 드골 회고록은 명쾌한 短文(단문)으로 프랑스 문학사에 남을 현대의 古典(고전)이 되었다. 전략 사상가이기도 하였던 드골은 두 번 프랑스를 구했다. 독일군에 패망한 프랑스를 다시 일으켜 세웠고, 알제리 독립문제로 內戰(내전) 일보 직전에 갔던 프랑스를 구하였을 뿐 아니라, 지금까지 계속되는 제5공화국의 틀을 만들었다.
그의 名言은 寸鐵活人(촌철활인)이다. 짦은 말로 힘을 내게 만든다. 영어로 번역된 것을 다시 번역하였다.
“원자폭탄을 갖지 않은 나라는 진정으로 독립하였다고 할 수 없다.”
No country without an atom bomb could properly consider itself independent.
“위기만이 프랑스를 단결시킬 수 있다. 265 가지나 되는 치즈를 가진 나라를 갑자기 단합시킬 순 없다.”
Only peril can bring the French together. One can't impose unity out of the blue on a country that has 265 different kinds of cheese.
