미국 국무부는 북한이 28일 단거리 미사일로 추정되는 발사체를 발사한 것을 규탄했습니다.

[미 국무부 대변인] “The US condemns the DPRK’s missile launch. This launch is in violation of multiple UN Security Council Resolutions and poses a threat to the DPRK’s neighbors and the international community. We remain committed to a diplomatic approach to the DPRK and call on them to engage in dialogue. Our commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains ironclad.”

국무부 대변인은 VOA에 보낸 이메일 논평에서 “미국은 북한의 미사일 발사를 규탄한다”며 “이 발사는 다수의 유엔 안보리 결의 위반이고 북한의 이웃나라와 국제사회에 위협이 된다”고 밝혔습니다. 이어 “우리는 북한과 외교적 접근에 전념하고 있고, 그들이 대화에 관여하길 촉구한다”며 “한국과 일본 방어에 대한 우리의 약속은 철통 같다”고 말했습니다.

미 인도태평양사령부도 이날 성명을 내고 “우리는 미사일 발사를 알고 있고, 동맹 파트너들과 긴밀히 협의하고 있다”고 말했습니다.

[인도태평양사령부 성명] “We are aware of the missile launch and are consulting closely with our allies and partners. While we have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel or territory or to our allies, the missile launch highlights the destabilizing impact of the DPRK’s illicit weapons program. The U.S. commitment to the defense of the ROK and Japan remains ironclad.”

인태사령부는 “우리는 이 일이 미국 요원이나 영토, 동맹에 즉각적인 위협이 되진 않는다고 판단했다”며 “미사일 발사는 북한의 불법적 무기 프로그램의 불안정한 영향을 강조하는 것”이라고 밝혔습니다. 아울러 “한국과 일본 방어에 대한 미국의 약속은 철통같다”고 강조했습니다. VOA 뉴스 조은정입니다.
