- Cruise trip -  (크루즈 여행)

지금까지 우리가 경험한 세계 여행의 대부분은 육로(陸路)를 통한 지상(地上) 여행이었다. 물론 배(페리, 보트, 여객선)를 이용한 짧거나 긴 수상(水上)(호수, 강, 수로, 해상) 여행도 간간이 있었다. 그러나 그것은 대부분이 해상교통 수단이었거나 일일투어 정도였다. 당일치기를 포함 짧게는 1박 2일, 길게는 3박 4일 정도의 선박여행을 해본 것이다. 그러나 그것은 이번에 경험한 초호화 크루즈여행과는 질적으로나 양적으로나 확연이 달랐다.

Most of the world travel we have experienced so far has been ground trips via land routes. Of course there were short trips by boat (ferries, passenger ships) and long trips on the water (lake, river, waterway). However, it was mostly maritime transport or a daily tour. A one - night two – day tour, three – night four - day cruise, including day trips. However, it was totally different in qualitative and quantitative terms from the experience of the luxury cruise this time.

우선 우리가 이번에 이용한 크루즈는 규모면에서 압도적이었다. 15층 높이의 14만 톤급으로 총 수용 인원이 5,200명(여객4,000명 + 승무원1,200명). 이는 우리가 지금까지 이용해본 발트 해 최대의 선박인 바이킹라인(50,000톤급)과 실자라인(60,000톤급)보다 두 배 이상 큰 크루즈 유람선 이였기 때문이다.

First, our cruise ship was overwhelming in scale. It has a total capacity of 5,200 people (4,000 passengers + 1,200 crew),15-story, in a 140,000 tons of ship. This is because it was the cruise ship more than twice as big as the Viking Line (50,000 tons) and Silja Line (60,000 tons), which were the largest vessels we had ever used.

발트 해 여객선 외에 인도(印度) 첸나이에서 안다만 섬으로 갈 때 이용한 선박은 거의 노예선(배낭족)으로 간주될 만큼 열악한 선박이었다. 아마 그래서 나에겐 이번에 경험한 크루즈선이 더더욱 크고 호화롭게 여겨졌던 것 같다. 다양한 경험은 때때로 이처럼 극대비(極對比)에서 오는 묘한 느낌의 기쁨과 감사를 선사하는 것 같다. 이번에 크루즈에선 만난 호주인 부부는 이미 20만톤급 크루즈여행을 카리브 해(海)에서 해봤다고 했다. 매우 만족한 표정이었다. 인생은 아는 만큼 보이고 보이는 만큼만 즐긴다고 했다. 이 분들을 보니 분명 크루즈여행에도 그 원리가 적용되는 것 같았다.

With the exception of the Baltic Sea passenger ships, the vessels used to travel from India (Chennai) to Andaman Island were almost as bad as those considered slave(backpacker) ships. Perhaps for this reason, it seems to me that the cruise line I experienced this time was much bigger and more luxurious. Various experiences sometimes seem to offer delightful joy and gratitude from such extreme contrasts. The Australian couple we met said they had already done a 200,000 - ton cruise on the Caribbean Sea. They looked so happy. Well, I think we can see as much as we know. We can enjoy life as much as we can see. So it seemed to me that these principles of life also applied to these people on Cruise.
